CLT- Chili Lettuce and Tomato Sandwich

Day 74

At the grocer’s it hit me. BLTs are fantastic, why not try chili, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches (or CLTs for those acronym enthusiasts). Don’t misunderstand, I have no ambitions of usurping bacon as a dominant fixture in North American cuisine. My intention is far more benign. I’m giving bacon the day off. Look at it like this, bacon and chili are engaged in variant “Trading Spaces” – that is, of course, with two critical differences- 1) it is more aptly “trading dishes” 2) the bacon/chili swap out will not be emceed by Paige Davis (sigh). Fear not, I’m confident she’ll reconsider my offer. Until then, I’ll have phone clutched and at the ready.

For the chili:
– 9 oz ground beef
Brown ground beef in a pan. Do not drain fat

Add
– 1 t dried minced onion
– ½ t cumin
– ¼ t celery salt
– 2 t chili powder
– 1 t dried California Chili, minced
– 1T Ketchup
Simmer for 10 minutes

You will also need:
– White sourdough bread, slice
– Roma tomato, sliced
– Lettuce, shredded

Tasting Notes:
All elements came together in a perfect storm of sandwich engendered bliss. The ITP was totally stoked, as soon as they sampled this lovely. Bread, tomato, and lettuce teamed up with a GREAT chili and the results were a super lunch. It was remarked that today’s chili would be great as a stand-alone or in burger patty form. I concur and will roll this out recipe next year. As for the bacon, fear not, in the coming days it will dictate its will in the chili realm.
